Coffee cups and Red Bull cans aside, it’s time that we consider the more healthy, natural ways which we can push past that 3:30-itis syndrome each afternoon.
While coffee, sugary drinks and snacks are an easy, quick fix to avoid tiredness, it is just that – quick and short lived. We want to provide you with long term, effective, healthy ways to preserve your energy throughout your day.
There’s many out there, some of which may be right in front of you, and others which you may not even know existed. Who knows, it may even be easier and simpler than you think.
1. Eat Apples
Jam packed with vitamin C, antioxidants and minerals, Apples have been proven to give you a long lasting, effective energy boost, producing a gradual supply of glucose to your brain and muscles for around an hour. So ditch that double shot soy latte and grab an apple on your way out the door.
This tip seems impossible to face when you’re feeling fatigued and lifeless. However, surprisingly it is one of the best ways to wake up your body and reduce tiredness. Another great thing about this technique is that it has also been proven to encourage better sleep, therefore increasing your energy levels even further for the days ahead. Both of these elements work together as a positive cycle, as the more sleep you get, the more energy you have to exercise, resulting in you then becoming more likely to sleep that night.
3. Add Wheatgrass to Smoothies
Wheatgrass is one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat. Alkaline foods increase raises the amount of oxygen which the blood can absorb. This not only helps to fight disease but helps to increase energy levels. Adding this ingredient to drinks has been proven to have remarkable health benefits.
4. Get more sleep
Justs 15 to 20 minutes of napping can provide amazing benefits if you are not a good sleeper throughout the night. Also, getting 7-9 hours of sleep every night has drastic effects on your productivity, health and wellbeing throughout the day. Sleep is often disregarded and its importance is often forgotten, but it really is one of the biggest things people need to concentrate on. Without a decent sleep, even with the best ingredients and supplements, the day can be a struggle. Good sleep is the foundation for living a healthy, energetic lifestyle.
5. Eat high energy foods
When you hit a wall of exhaustion, many people turn to sugary foods for that quick fix boost of energy. Unfortunately though, this can result in a short term sugar high and long afternoon of tiredness, headaches and irritability.
The best thing you can do is target snacks which contain complex carbohydrates so that the energy provided can be slowly released throughout your system over the course of your day.
